Global City 2.0 network of urban civic movements
The 'Global City 2.0' network is an open invitation to groups and individuals (academics, researchers, journalists, artists, decision-makers or engaged citizens) who want to highlight the role of 'urban civic movements' and their potential to transform cities and urban life, especially in the current economic climate.
The project is currently producing a worldwide map of websites of street-, neighborhood- or city-based organisations, which become listed on this page by being promoted by citizens or groups that wish to think collectively about the future of the places where they live and work. In this way the Global City 2.0 provides an online space where citizens and social activists can share information, see who else is working in their field and start collaborating on common issues.
The project is run by the Protugese civic movement ‘Cidades pela Retoma’, and is an initiative developed in the spirit of '2011 European Year of Volunteering to promote more active citizenship’. The hope is that better and more informed practices may emerge from networking and sharing common problems and goals.
